Dag 4 Early or packed breakfast at the hotel followed by early check-out and transfer to the train terminal to take Kiev-Poltava morning express # 164 06:33 – 10:17 2nd class Arrival to Poltava, meeting with guide, 11:00-13:00 - observation city tour of Poltava (2 hours) Poltava is the considerable centre of national culture of the Central Ukraine. It was first mentioned as a settlement of Ltava in chronicle in 1173. In the years of liberation war 1648-54 a city became the centre of the Poltava regiment. In the years of North War between Russia and Sweden the Swedish army with Charles XII at the head came up to Poltava. Here Peter I arrived with basic forces of the Russian army. The main battle – Poltava battle happened on this territory on June, 27. Visit to the Round Square, the central square of the city. In the middle there is a garden with the monument of Glory. The centre of the old city is a semicircular Neoclassical square with the Tuscan column of cast iron (1805-11), commemorating the centenary of the Battle of Poltava and featuring 18 Swedish cannons captured in that battle. Dag 5 Breakfast at the hotel 10:00-16:00 excursion incuding Visit to the Museum of the Poltava Battle. The museum was established in 1909 on very the field of the Poltava battle next to the Brothers Grave. There are more than five thousand exhibits: works of art, weapon, rewards, colours, uniform and equipment of the Swedish and Russian armies, personal things of Peter I and his associates. You can listen to the sound diorama of the Poltava fight. Alongside is a monument to Swedes from Russians, cross on the brothers Grave of Swedish soldiers, monument to Peter I. Krestovozdvizhenskiy cathedral (XVII) is a silent witness of the North War. It is a unique seven-domed church in Ukraine built in baroque style with a four-storied bell tower. Monument to the Glorious defenders of Poltava, monument to Ukrainian Cossacks, monument to Unsubdued Poltava are tightly connected with Poltava battle.
